B.O.D.Y RAKS EXTREME CHOREOGRAPHY - INTERPRETIVE 2010
FALL-WINTER SEMESTERS CHOREOGRAPHY BY JIHAN JAMAL,
EXTREME CHOREOGRAPHY SERIES - Jihan Jamal's "Mermaids of the
Nile" - Dance Theatre choreography for solo artist and/or dance troupe;
One of Jihan's favorite dance piece productions, set to the composition
by Mohammed Adbel Wahab, "Fi Youm Wa Leyla" (All in a day and a night).
This choreography is a mix of both Classical Raks Sharqi technique, with
elelments of Egyptian and Tunisian Folk and interpretational nuances
(floor work), and the use of "jarras" (vases) as props. The piece can be
performed with veils, in lieu of the water vases. Please wear leggings,
tights or dance pants, so that you feel comfortable descending to the
floor. Bring veils. If you have an unbreakable vase, please bring it as
well. I will have some available.
B.O.D.Y RAKS EXTREME CHOREOGRAPHY SERIES- SHABBY
- Jihan Jamal's Baladi and Interpretive
Fusion piece, "EL KHAHIRA - A CUBAN IN CAIRO" - Dance Theatre
choreography for solo artist and/or dance troupe. This
choreography is an inspiration of my own travels and experiences in
Cairo, The City Victorious - "EL KHAHIRA", and it is a Baladi piece with
elements of Cuban "Guaguanco" (an Afro-Cuban bi-product of Rhumba) and "Chancleteo"
(wooden sandal dance, worn by women in the pre-Castro carnivals in Cuba
to "arroyar" (drag-walk), which are also used in Cairo in the hammams
(baths). This is a very energetic, invigorating and fun piece - Be sure
to nourish yourself well before class and take your vitamins! I advise
you to wear dance shoes; ballet slippers; jazz shoes, jazz tennis shoes,
etc. I will demonstrate with the wooden sandals. (Bring them, if you
have them, but not essential to learn the routine. The music for this
number is Egyptian Shabby.

B.O.D.Y.
(Bellyrina Oriental Dance & Yoga
is Jihan's newly enhanced method of teaching dance as both an art form
and fitness program for all students, from beginner's to performance and
competition levels.
Jihan blends the benefits of Yoga Asanas,
isometric exercises, floor barre and classical dancer's
stretches, in her "warm-up and warm-down"
segments, at the beginning end of each dance class.
"While developing my personal fitness program for ultimate levels of
fitness, stamina and performance refinement and discipline, I have been
working on enhancing the Jamal Method of teaching Arabic dance arts,
while always emphasizing classical corporal dance discipline and
technique, as well as creative movement and development -Empowering
myself through Yoga and dance movement, thus conditioning spirit, mind
and body collaboration and correlation, in dealing with everyday life
experiences. I want to share with you the positive results of the YES I
CAN attitude in life. I want to share my journey with you, my student.
November 2009 HIGHLIGHTED my 30th year anniversary as an Oriental dance
artist, and I am going through a renewal of my own, and I'm so excited,
I can't keep it to myself!
